How to win contracts with Chicago Public Schools

1. Register on the district vendor system. Chicago Public Schools manages vendor registration through at https://cps.bonfirehub.com/portal/?tab=openOpportunities. Districts frequently also use E-rate for federally-funded technology purchases with additional FCC registration requirements.
2. Consider cooperative purchasing contracts. School districts frequently buy through cooperative contracts (Sourcewell, OMNIA Partners, TIPS, NCPA, E&I) rather than running direct RFPs. Winning a cooperative contract gives you access to Chicago Public Schools plus thousands of other districts without per-district competition.
3. Understand fiscal-year timing. School districts operate on fiscal years starting July 1 (most common) or September 1. Major procurement (facilities, technology, curriculum, transportation) is typically issued February-May for July 1 starts. Plan pursuit workflow around this cycle.
4. Address child safety + background-check requirements. Any vendor with facility access must comply with school-district background-check requirements (state-specific, usually fingerprint-based). Bids that don't address this in the response are frequently disqualified. Budget 2-4 weeks for background clearance if required.
